Experiential education opportunities combine education, service, and hands-on experience that provide students with the opportunities to learn about and appreciate the natural world.
Initial Program Offerings - Land and Water
Habitat Creation 101
Program Duration: Two Hours
Fee: $16.00 per student, 19 student minimum
Audience: Can be adapted for 6th - 12th grade aged students
Description: During this program, students are immersed in habitat features that are naturally occurring and that are human-created and maintained. Students gain first-hand experience in environmental observation, plant identification, native plant propagation, invasive species management, conservation & garden planning, design, and maintenance, and species data collection and recording.
Our programming aligns with the following STEELS Standards:
3.1.6-8.F, 3.1.6-8.I
Streamflow Analysis
Program Duration: Two Hours
Fee: $16.00 per student, 19 student minimum
Audience: Can be adapted for 6th - 12th grade aged students
Description: How much water is in a stream? Why does it matter? Students will collect and interpret field data to answer these questions - and will have opportunities to think about the bigger picture including flooding. This fully immersive experience asks at least some participants to wade in the stream for data collection (all are welcome to wade).
Our programming aligns with the following STEELS Standards: 3.3.6-8.L, 3.3.6-8.M, 3.4.6-8.E, 3.4.9-12.E
Students organize and coordinate to collect data, experience streamflow dynamics, and have an opportunity to compare their results with data from a stream gauge on site.
