Growing conservation projects and cultivating volunteer opportunities.

Native plants are vital components of our local environment that are crucial for ecosystem health, watershed management, and wildlife. Native plant species are naturally occurring species that have evolved in a particular region, ecosystem, or habitat. In the Perkiomen Creek Watershed, our native species have been here since the last glacial period and have evolved side by side with our regions climate, geology, native wildlife, and pollinators. Native plants offer a wealth of benefits to our local environment and our communities.

Native Plant Work Days

On Wednesday afternoons volunteers join our Conservation Team to work with native plants: whether it be sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, stewarding local rain gardens, maintaining native tree plantings, and more. Our Native Plant Project volunteers are always making a positive difference in the watershed! Native Plant Work Days are held throughout the year and focus on a different project each week. Please visit our Native Plant Work Day sign-up to learn more about and sign-up for upcoming weekly volunteer opportunities.

Email our Director of Ecology, Beth Myers with Native Plant Work Day questions.

Purpose & Mission

  • Educate the community about the importance of native plants in ecosystem health and stormwater management.

  • Maintain our native plant nursery to provide us with a low-cost source of PA native plants to use in our watershed restoration projects.

  • Work with municipal and community partners to develop and execute robust conservation projects that directly and positively impact the land and water resources of the Perkiomen Watershed.

  • Create weekly volunteer opportunities in which local residents can work cooperatively to provide meaningful service to the Perkiomen Creek Watershed.

  • Engage students and community members in meaningful community service through hands-on experiential education.

  • Host an annual Native Plant Sale to promote and encourage the use of native plants throughout the Perkiomen Creek Watershed.

  • Cultivate native landscapes that can be replicated in residential, commercial, and municipal properties.

  • Expand the Native Plant Project to our new satellite site, Dragonfly Farm, located at Jacob Reiff Park in Lower Salford Township.

Thank you to our volunteers!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our Native Plant Project volunteers. These volunteers sowed the seeds, nurtured the seedlings, and planted thousands of native plants in conservation projects throughout the Perkiomen Creek Watershed. These volunteers are also responsible for the continued success of completed projects as they help our Conservation Team steward these projects into maturity. The success of our Native Plant Project would not be possible without their hard work and dedication!
