Crystal holds a B.S. in Geography from Penn State and a M.S. in Transportation Engineering from Villanova University. She has been involved with a broad array of municipal planning issues in southeastern Pennsylvania for more then 20 years. Crystal began her career as the transportation planner for the Bucks County Planning Commission. After receiving her master's degree, she took a position with a private engineering firm in Philadelphia. Crystal later took a position at Lower Providence Township as the director of Planning and Development before working for passage of the Montgomery County Open Space referendum in 2003. Crystal accepted the position of Executive Driector of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy in Schwenksville in 2004.
Crystal's diverse experience has been helpful in her current position as she is largely responsible for community outreach, establishing annual work plans for the Conservancy, annual budgeting and fundraising as well as the usual organizational management tasks associated with a non-profit organization. "I grew up in central PA where open space is pretty much taken for granted. Here in the Perkiomen Creek watershed, we see so many unique and marvelous landscapes that could be gone tomorrow. It is heartening to see so many people engaged in protecting their local resources. I'm proud to be a small part of that effort."
Being a serious planning geek, Crystal is also involved in her municipal government as the chair of both the Lower Frederick Township Planning Commission and Open Space Committee. In 2003, she served on the County's Open Space Task Force to help define the County's Open Space program. Crystal has also been a guest lecturer at Temple University's Ambler Campus for Introduction to Planning. She is a certified planner through the American Institute for Certified Planners. "When I travel I don't take photos of the usual stuff. I come home with pictures of intersections and round-abouts!"
"Water is a critical resource that supports our economy and our quality of life. I am so pleased to be part of the Conservancy. We are making some serious inroads into stormwater issues; helping preserve good water quality where it exists and improving water quality elsewhere. Our environmental education services are among the best in the region! As far as I'm concerned, the Conservancy is a critical partner in a well-rounded and forward-thinking community."
Did you know? Crystal whistled the "Stars and Stripes Forever" on the main stage at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia.
