• CONSERVANCY LOOKING FOR CREEKSIDE PROJECT SITES |

The top issues degrading water quality in our creeks and streams are eroding streambanks, loss of native trees and shrubs along the creeks and the increasing impacts of stormwater.
The Conservancy protects water quality by helping property owners better manage their creekbanks and stream buffers. The Conservancy also helps augment stormwater basins so that they improve water quality and local habitats while saving money for mowing services.
THE CONSERVANCY CAN HELP PROPERTY OWNERS ADDRESS THESE ISSUES BUT WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!
Please contact us if you are aware of creek locations with signficant streambank erosion and vegetation loss. Please keep in mind that this is not an opportunity to anonymously snitch on a neighbor. Property owners MUST be informed and willing to consider possible projects.
We are especially interested in larger properties (at least an acre or more) and open space/stormwater management areas owned by homeowners associations or municipalities. The potential project location should be adjacent to a creek that eventually flows into the Perkiomen Creek. (For a map of the Perkiomen Creek watershed, click on the "About Us" tab and then click on the map prompt in the article.)
Conservancy projects are funded through grants and foundations. Our goal is to create a "ready list" of potential projects and partners that can be used for grant and foundation applications. Projects will not be submitted for funding without the property owners agreement.
The photo (coming soon) shows a completed streambank restoration project. The bank had been badly eroded and was about to collapse. The associated sediments and mud would have impacted the native trout populations signficantly.
The project includes a stabilized creekbank and trout habitat structures under the creekbank. Within a week of completion, the water was clear and the trout had returned.
Let us know if we can give Mother Nature a liitle assistance on a creek near you! |
