We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Assistant Director for Environmental Education with experience teaching students of all ages about the wonder and intricacies of the natural world. Position begins August/September 2008. This is a terrific opportunity to join a dynamic team of educators and make a difference in this world. Our 2007 admission figures topped 8,900. Community members are engaged and supportive of programming and the number of schools and organized groups is climbing. Our programs touch the Boyertown, Perkiomen Valley, Upper Perkiomen, Souderton, Owen J. Roberts, Wissahickon, Methacton, North Penn, Pennridge, and Spring-Ford Area School Districts, and also include schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The following awards have been received by the environmental education department and/or its educators: the “Excellence in Environmental Programming Award” from the Elmwood Zoo; the “Dr. Ruth Patrick Award…for outstanding early childhood, youth and adult environmental education programs…” from the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin; the “Outstanding Early Childhood Professional Award” from Scholastic, Inc. and Stand for Children.
Qualifications:
- Ability and desire to empower students
- Team player
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience in either a formal and/or non-formal setting
- Bachelor of Science in addition to coursework and /or training in one or more of the following related fields: Environmental Education/Natural History/Environmental Sciences/Elementary Education
- Knowledge & experience with environmental education programming
- Experience working with teachers of young learners through middle school
- Commitment to sharing your love of the natural world with others
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Success as a creative problem solver
- Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/ (knowledge of Access, Publisher - helpful)
- Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate a plus
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and nurture the education department’s volunteers
- Coordinate PWC’s Summer Science Academy™
- Teach classes both onsite and off
- Coordinate the Annual Halloween Night Hike
- Assist in curriculum development
- Assist in the production of promotional materials
- Maintain & update the PWC website education links
Position: 24 Hours per week/Closed when filled.
