Here’s more about our yearly themes...

Habitats
(Summer of 2014)
Become an expert on our area habitats and their inhabitants as we explore the forest, delve into the field, compare a pond and stream, and locate an ecotone! Fun is guaranteed as we travel “afield” investigating these diverse natural areas.

The Perkiomen Creek: Past, Present, and Future

(Summer of 2012)
Join us as we travel through time, beginning with the age of dinosaurs. Acquaint yourself with the days of the Lenape Indians and the Pennsylvania Dutch; delve into the impact of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; and trace the creek’s evolution to this day. We will make predictions about future impacts on this unique body of water and immerse ourselves in the many stories that make the Perkiomen Creek our natural treasure.

Watersheds
(Summer of 2013)
“What is a Watershed?” Find out how to identify the boundaries of a watershed including our very own Perkiomen Creek watershed while using topographic maps, compasses, and a variety of activities. Participate in “survivor challenges” which will place you in major tributaries and give new meaning to the term, “flood plain”. Answer that often asked question, “Why should I care?” and develop a land use action plan with your team!

A Note to Parents…
We feel it is imperative that children of all ages be given opportunities to form a kinship with the natural world. Not merely to view it, but to experience it. Through investigation and observation, kids discover together how the natural world works and begin building a relationship with it. Since the Perkiomen Creek is the thread that we have in common, what better place for a classroom? Developing a sense of place here within the Perkiomen Watershed links us to the land in which we live.

Integral to our program philosophy is that each student be given the opportunity to learn and grow in an atmosphere that is exploratory, supportive, and exciting. To this end, our staff is composed of gifted and knowledgeable educators who are lifelong learners. We take delight in making discoveries alongside children.
