Fall 2011
Volunteer days for Stream Buffer Restoration on a Tributary of the Perkiomen
A riparian corridor, the land adjacent to a stream, river or pond, can become impaired by nearby development, stormwater erosion and exotic invasive plants. Here at The Conservancy, we strive to protect and improve the water quality quantity and habitat sustainablity of the Perkiomen Creek watershed. We need volunteers assistance to restore our stream riparian habitat through the removal of exotic invasie shrubs and vines and the planting of native trees and shrubs.
Calling all volunteers for two stream restoration workdays!
September 17th 1pm-4pm
Invasive Plant Removal on tributary to the Perkiomen Creek
Bridge Rd & Crestview Blvd, Skippack
Come cut, whack, snipe and rip out exotic invasive shrubs and vines from the impaired riparian corridor along a trbutary to the Perkiomen Creek. Vines and non-native shrubs have overrun the forested area along this creek and they need to be removed to make way for native trees and shrubs to be planted later in the Fall. We need your help! Be prepare to battle with these unruly vines and shrubs and have a blast while doing it! Volunteers should wear close toe shoes, long pants and sleeved shirts.
October 22nd 1pm-4pm
Tree Planting on tributary to the Perkiomen Creek
Bridge Rd & Crestview Blvd, Skippack
After ripping out those pesky invasive plants, its time to plant! Get ready to get your hands dirty, we are digging! Come learn about tree planting, stream restorations and healthy soils, plants and forests. We will be planting a variety of native trees and shrubs that will help restore riparian habitat along this tributary. Again make sure you keep your toes, arms and legs covered with pants, close toe shoes and long sleeve shirts.
