Scioto Creek Wetland Demonstration Project,
Upper Frederick Township

This wetland construction project behind the township building has been in the making for quite a while. A lot of work has gone into the planning process, and now we are gearing up for construction! Instead of a mowed field, which allows stormwater to flow freely into our creeks, carrying pollution and eroding streambanks, this area will become a forested wetland, which will slow down the course of water, to be used by wetland plants and animals. This is a natural way of purifying the water and helping to stabilize the banks of this Scioto Creek tributary. This area will not just be enjoyed by wildlife, however. A path will be built for visitors to walk around the wetland to observe the wildlife and read about the wetland at an informational kiosk. Come help us plant in July!

Our success in managing European water chestnut is due to our dedicated volunteers. It is your efforts that have kept our waterways from choking on this invasive plant. Please continue to check our website for volunteer opportunities.

Current funding for this important management project was awarded through the SEI Cares grant program.

Stormwater Basin Retrofit
Vineyards Community of Pennsburg

We are currently monitoring the success of the regrading and planting we did in August 2012 on three basins in this community.  We will also be surveying the residents of the community to see how their involvement in this project has affected their perspectives on stormwater management.

Conservation Maintenance Project

Thanks to funding from the Perkiomen Creek Watershed Improvement Corporation, we have been able to return to previous project sites, assess the health of our plantings, and perform any maintenance that is required.  Most of our sites appear to be doing very well, but we may need volunteer assistance to remove invasive plants, mend deer fencing, or remove tree tubes.  Check out our volunteer opportunities page for workdays.
